Saimi Bergmann

Mark Bergmann

Saimi Bergmann was a food writer, travel writer and consumer writer for more than 25 years. She wrote food stories and restaurant reviews for the Repository newspaper in Canton, Ohio. She has led culinary-themed cruises, and has given countless cooking demos. She has judged cooking contests, from the National Dandelion Cookoff in Dover, Ohio to the National Chicken Cook-Off in Birmingham, Alabama. She currently writes food stories for SideStreet Magazine and teaches cooking classes through community education at Dixie State University.

Saimi spends countless hours combing city streets, trolling tiny towns and roaming rolling countrysides to find (and eat) the best-kept secrets and local specialties that are the hallmark of Foodie Field Trips. Before claiming a spot on a tour, every featured delicacy has to pass Saimi’s demanding taste test. Twice. Or, in the case of baked goods, three times. Yes, she has taken a few calories for the team, but believes the resultant culinary tours are worth the sacrifice. And the cellulite.

Saimi and Mark raised Erik, the omnivore, and Katrina, the vegetarian, both of whom grew up to be accomplished, fearless cooks. In her spare time, Saimi grows herbs, reads voraciously, putters with crafts, and struggles with a cookbook addiction.

Foodie Field Trips Ohio was founded in 2014 by food writers Saimi Bergmann and Jennifer Mastroianni.  After three successful years, Jennifer bowed out and Mark gamely stepped in. Although not a food writer,  Mark modestly claims to be an Olympic-caliber food eater.

Mark and Saimi had three additional years of sold-out tours in Ohio before selling the company in July, 2019.  They launched Foodie Field Trips Utah in September, 2019.

Mark is a retired faculty member from the University of Mount Union, where he was also the general manager of the radio station, WRMU.

Second only to his love of food, Mark has a lifelong passion for history.  He has spent countless hours studying southern Utah’s fascinating story.  During our tours, he will share historical information on St. George and the surrounding area.

In his spare time, Mark wages war with squirrels who attack his peach trees.
